Clogs for the Summer

Clogs and Jeans | Shades of Sarah

After buying this sweater and jeans back in March, this has become my go-to spring outfit. Now that it’s starting to warm up a bit (again…the warmest week of the year was the first week of March!) I can trade my ankle boots for my clogs. I bought them almost two years ago, marked down and abandoned in a corner of an Old Navy, and they’re still going strong.

While I love wearing my clogs with sundresses, it’s also fun to mix it up and dress up jeans with them. To add some contrast to this monochrome base, I added this tiny crossbody my brother picked up while visiting our dad in Costa Rica. I’m not usually one for print mixing, but I think this works because it’s a small dose in similar colors. Oh, and did I mention that floral print fabric is built into the sweater? Already-layered sweaters are my new secret weapon.

I didn’t want to overdo it with the accessories, but I had to add some dainty gold rings. A chunky gold watch would have also been a fun addition.

Oh, and in more clog-related news, I teamed up with my fellow Philly girl Chelsea from Organized Mess to style these clogs. Hers are this year’s black version, and I would have them in my closet if they weren’t sold out already. I love how even though our outfits have similar elements — skinny jeans, clogs, crossbody bags — they came out super different and very reflective of our own personal styles.

Be sure to let us know how you wear your clogs (Priya is a master and has both black and brown clogs), and let us know what piece we should style next!

Red Knit Poncho with Jeans | Shades of Sarah

Welcome to the first outfit post of 2016! To be quite honest, I don’t think I would’ve ever picked out this poncho (and in red!) for myself…but that’s one of the best parts about Christmas gifts! So I was surprised when I liked this present from my aunt so much. It’s so comfy!

As someone who doesn’t play with texture in my clothing too much, this is a nice statement piece that adds variety. But my favorite thing about my poncho so far? It’s food baby foolproof. Both days I’ve worn it, I knew I was going to eat a lot. Which is exactly what we did before and after Chrystina took these pictures (Menagerie Coffee for bagels and blogging and Tea-Do for bubble tea, because obviously…and Cheesecake Factory after that).

Is opting for a poncho instead of a light coat adventurous enough that I can keep the rest of my outfit basic? Because that’s what I’ve been doing so far, just jeans and a top. I do think my earpins are a subtly cool touch (my mom and I each bought a pair the last day of the Christmas market from Eardivine.)

Anyone else trying the poncho trend? How do I step my game up?

P.S. Thanks again for the snaps, Chrystina!

SelectSpecs Review

I received a free pair of Economy frames and lenses from SelectSpecs in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

SelectSpecs Review

A couple months ago, SelectSpecs.com got in touch and asked if I was interested in reviewing their glasses. As a longtime four eyes (since 1998, y’all), I happily agreed. SelectSpecs is a UK-based, online retailer for glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses.

SelectSpecs has extensive options for men and women, at various price points, which made it difficult to choose just one frame. You can search by frame shape, color, etc., which helps narrow things down for you! Unfortunately, the site doesn’t have a virtual try-on option, but luckily, I generally know what frames work for my face. I chose the rectangular Savannah frame in Demi, a fun animal print.

I’ve never ordered glasses online before, so I was surprised how easy it was to submit my prescription information. Between the production and shipping (holidays, not the best timing…), it took almost a month for me to receive my new glasses, so about a week or so longer than what I’m used to from the eye doctor. The frames are really sturdy though, and I’m glad I changed things up slightly by choosing a print rather than a solid frame, so I’m pretty happy with my choice. (I shared a closer look at my glasses on Instagram.)

A word on lenses: I have a very strong prescription, so it is normally recommended I order special lenses. However, this review offer only included SelectSpec’s free lenses and coating option. The lenses are thicker than I usually wear, but after a couple days, they no longer felt heavier than usual.

Overall, I would definitely recommend SelectSpecs for glasses-wears who are looking for more frame options online or are interested in having a backup pair of glasses (because mixing it up is fun!). If you do have a strong prescription though, just be aware that additional charges may add up quickly!

Have you tried SelectSpecs or similar online retailers before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
