Hi! While I’m on vacation in Colombia, I have some fabulous guest bloggers filling in for me. Today’s guest blogger is Kayla! We’re classmates at Fordham and runs a food blog called Big Apple Appetite. I can certainly appreciate a good meal, so I’m glad my favorite foodie can gave us a taste of what she has to offer (pun!). 🙂
So while Sarah is off gallivanting in Colombia, I am still here in New York (not like that’s anything to complain about). My beloved city may not be as exotic as South America, but we do have stellar Latin food.
Empanada Mama is a gold mine in Queens. I grew up eating comforting Colombian dishes, and I especially looked forward to the special occasions when my mom would bring me a paper bag with big grease stains holding these pockets of deliciousness.
To be traditional, I had the pollo y papas which was rich with the flavors of home…meaning Adobo. A quirky pick, but too cool to resists, was the Mac n’ Cheese. The crunchy outside revealed an uber-creamy noodle fest. Dessert was guava and cheese. The contrast of the sweet guava and salty queso blanco is perfectly balanced, inviting you for bite after bite.
The best part? All three empanadas were under $5 total! One of the best deals in NY. Totally convincing Sarah to join me when she gets back.
