paper doll: noun a paper or cardboard, usually two-dimensional, representation of the human figure, used as a child’s toy.
Well, I hope my personality isn’t two-dimensional, but for the day I am a Paper Doll. I’m participating in the Paper Doll Project, created by the lively Suze from Miss Vinyl Ahoy. Basically, fashion bloggers were paired up and asked to style each other. (Click here to meet all of the Paper Doll Project participants and to find out how to join in the next round!) I was paired with Cathy, from Minister of Style. I asked Cathy to style this plum cloche of mine. (UPDATE: see how I styled Cathy here – I love her fresh, professional twist on a jumpsuit!)
The cloche was sort of an impulse buy at Target last summer. I say “sort of” because although I love hats and anything 1920s-inspired, I had no idea what to wear it with. So my cloche has basically been hidden away in my closet ever since. Thank goodness I had Cathy to help me! This is what she came up with:
I love what Cathy came up with, because not only does it dress down my cloche, but it makes it more spring-y. Unfortunately, I didn’t have all the pieces Cathy suggested (side bar: how do I, a jeans-and-tee girl, not own boyfriend jeans??), so this is my own interpretation of it. What do you think?
Cloche – Target; Blouse – unknown (Colombia); Rope belt – street vendor (Colombia); Cuffed Shorts (originally jeans) – Levi (via JcPenny?); Flats – Target; Tote – Barnes & Noble.
I loved this outfit! It was comfortable and very me, with the hat to top it off! I love the purple and blue combo. Since my blouse had such large buttons, I skipped a necklace but I did accessorize with silver hoop earrings and yes, those are silly bandz. I don’t own boyfriend jeans, but my cuffed bermudas (originally jeans which my mom hemmed for me) have a similar laid-back vibe. Since my mom’s yellow purse is not in my possession, I used my Wizard of Oz tote instead. Cathy didn’t specify what shoes to wear, so I wore my new black flats. I love the flowery cutouts and the slightest wedge heel. Not to mention, I got compliments on the cloche all afternoon long.
