Yes/No/Maybe

Wow, by the lack of recent posts, it’s pretty clear that February has been a busy month for me. Some of my fellow bloggers seem to be feeling the same, with some on self-imposed hiatus. I miss blogging, I just rarely have a chance to sit down, breathe, and be creative or witty enough to writer. (Sitting down and vegging out on Twitter – now that I can manage.)

So what has been keeping me such a busy bee? Well, there’s that whole “college” thing, but way too many extra-curriculars. I know (most of) these will be beneficial to me in the long run, but I have to admit, I over-extended myself this year. It’s like an old friend said, I’m a “responsibility glutton”.

I struggle with saying “yes” and “no”. I’m too quick to say “yes”, yes I can handle this extra work, yes I can do a favor for you, yes I can work on a new project, etc. Then, not only do I overwhelm myself, but I do less-quality work. Even worse, then I say “no” to myself, to going out, relaxing, and so on. The ultimate result is defeat, and exhaustion. That’s what I get for being stubborn.

I have something new to add to my New Year’s resolutions. I need to learn to say “no” to things I don’t necessarily want to take on and saying “yes” to things that make me happy. Any advice? How do you make this happen for you?
